Jermaine Jenas believed Manchester United could spring a surprise against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has predicted that Manchester United could pull off a major upset against Arsenal when the two sides meet in a Premier League clash on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal currently sit top of the league table and are enjoying a strong run of form.

However, Jenas believed United’s recent resurgence could pose a serious threat at the Emirates Stadium.

Manchester United have shown marked improvement under interim manager Michael Carrick, with their 2-0 victory over Manchester City standing out as a statement performance.

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu secured the derby win, while United’s defensive structure and tactical discipline earned widespread praise.

What Jenas said

Speaking on the Wilcards Podcast, Jenas highlighted the structure and cohesion United displayed against City as a potential blueprint for success against Arsenal.

“Watching that game against Man City, the first thing I noticed was how well-drilled they were, and their organisation and partnerships were really coming together,” Jenas said.

He also pointed to the growing understanding in key areas of the pitch.

He added, “Up top, Mbeumo and Fernandes were really working together a lot, and Fernandes set up Mbeumo for the first goal of the game. Defensively, the situation with Martinez and Maguire seems to be holding up well.”

While acknowledging Arsenal’s strengths, Jenas suggested that the league leaders may be vulnerable, particularly in open play.

“When I watch Arsenal, I don’t get the feeling that they just break teams apart easily,” he explained.

“Obviously, they have good set-pieces which can make a difference, and Gabriel Jesus could help with that.”
