Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie misses out on winning The Best FIFA award
Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has missed out on The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper 2025 award, with Chelsea and England star Hannah Hampton emerging victorious.
Hampton’s triumph caps a remarkable year at both club and international level, edging out a competitive shortlist that included the Nigerian shot-stopper.
Hampton’s fairytale year seals FIFA honour
Hannah Hampton became just the second England player to win the award, following Mary Earps’ successes in 2022 and 2023.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a standout year, headlined by a memorable UEFA Women’s EURO campaign where she saved two penalties in shootouts against Sweden and Spain, earning Goalkeeper of the Tournament honours.
At club level, Hampton was equally influential as Chelsea secured a domestic treble, winning the Women’s Super League, FA Cup and League Cup.
Receiving the award, Hampton said: “Thank you very much to everyone who voted. It's greatly appreciated, and it really means a lot. [Thank you] to Sarina [Wiegman] and to Sonia [Bompastor] for the belief in me this year.”
She defeated nominees including Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Christiane Endler, Anna Moorhouse, Nnadozie and Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
Nnadozie shines despite missing out
Although she fell short of the top prize, Nnadozie still has the 2025 CAF Women's Goalkeeper of the Year award to celebrate.
The Paris FC goalkeeper was outstanding in the Coupe de France final, keeping a clean sheet against PSG before saving two penalties in the shootout to secure the trophy.
On the international stage, she played a key role as Nigeria reclaimed the WAFCON title, recording four clean sheets in six matches, including a dominant display against hosts Morocco in Rabat.
The award was decided through a detailed voting process involving national team coaches and captains, journalists and fans, each accounting for 25 per cent of the final tally.
