Heartland are three-time champions of Nigeria's Cup, winning the 1988 (as Iwuanyanwu Nationale), 2011 and 2012 editions.

Three-time Nigerian cup champions Heartland, have progressed to the round of 32 of the 2023 Federation Cup following a 2-0 victory over Jedo FC.

Ajoku, Omaka secure passage for wasteful Heartland

Heartland, champions of the 1988, 2011 and 2012 cups found ease against their Sokoto counterparts in the knock-out game, played at the Area 3 Stadium in Abuja.

The first half saw the Nigeria National League (NNL) side draw first blood as they got the opener thanks to an effort by winger Chidiebere Ajoku.

The Owerri club then doubled their lead in the second half of the game - after having wasted a flurry of chances - through former Enyimba midfielder Fabian Omaka, sealing a comfortable passage to the next round.

Round of 32 to hold next Wednesday

Heartland will now await results from other fixtures to know their opponents for the round of 32 scheduled to hold on Wednesday, May 3.

Meanwhile, the Owerri club will turn their attention back to the NNL where they will play Giant Brillars as the division resumes this weekend.

With the season at its midway point, Heartland currently leads Group B2 of the Southern Conference with 11 points after five matches, and stands a good chance at making the NNL Super 8 playoff.
