Super Eagles legend Mutiu Adepoju has advised Atalanta star Ademola Lookman on his next transfer destination.

Lookman was one of Atalanta’s best players in Serie A last season, helping to finish third and qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

The winger scored 15 goals and had five assists in 31 appearances last season for Atalanta.

Overall, Lookman netted 20 goals and provided seven assists in 40 appearances for the club.

Adepoju advises Lookman

In an exclusive chat with Footy-Africa, Adepoju, a key member of Nigeria’s historic 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad, shared his views on Lookman’s career.

“Of recent, Lookman has done very well for Atalanta and the national team, the Super Eagles,” Adepoju said.

“And I think if he continues with Atalanta, it won’t be a bad thing. But if he has to move, I would like to see him in a bigger club either in La Liga or the Premier League. He has done greatly and deserves to play in a bigger club — and I believe he will make it anywhere.”

Despite having two years left on his current contract, Adepoju feels the Nigerian international should seek new challenges at this time.

Lookman scored 15 goals in the Serie A and 5 in the UCL this season.

“I think the time is ripe for him to move to another league as I do not think he has anything else to prove in Italy,” Adepoju added.

“Lookman needs a new adventure to take him to the next level. And even if he remains with the Italian side, it will not be a bad idea. But I do not mind him seeking greener pastures elsewhere next season.”

Top clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain, are reportedly competing for Lookman's signature, as he has been linked with a departure from Atalanta.
