Former Ghanaian national team coach James Kwesi Appiah has been unveiled as the new head coach of Sudan's senior national men's football team.
The 63-year-old, who previously led Ghana to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, is set to take the reins in Sudan for the next three years.
Appiah's return to Sudan is not entirely unfamiliar, as he had a previous stint with Al Khartoum between 2014 and 2017.
During that time, he showed his coaching prowess by guiding the team to a commendable fourth-place finish in the league and securing qualification to the Confederation Cup.
Sudan is placing its faith in Appiah's experience and expertise to elevate its national team's performance.
One of the primary objectives is to secure a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the nation's recent failure to qualify for the upcoming edition set to be held in Ivory Coast.
This appointment marks Appiah's third venture into coaching the national teams of African nations.
He previously had two spells as the head coach of Ghana's Black Stars, first from 2012 to 2014 and later from 2017 to 2020
In recent years, Appiah has been involved in various capacities within the domestic football scene.
He held the position of Technical Director at the Kenpong Academy and later assumed the role of Interim Management Committee chairman at Asante Kotoko.
Appiah's appointment in Sudan also signifies the conclusion of his tenure with Asante Kotoko, where he was actively involved in putting together an Interim Management Committee.
