Christmas Eve Chaos: Mahrez is alive! AFCON 2025 Day 4 Review

Izuchukwu Akawor 23:35 - 24.12.2025

Forget your holiday plan, AFCON 2025 just gave us the Christmas Eve gift we didn't know we needed. Day four delivered absolute chaos in Morocco with results that have completely scrambled the group stage picture.

Forget the milk and cookies, Santa's sleigh had nothing on the football fireworks at AFCON 2025!

While the rest of the world was wrapping presents and hanging stockings, Morocco delivered a proper Christmas Eve spectacular.

The Elephants stomped, the Fennecs feasted, and the Stallions pulled off highway robbery in stoppage time. Here's your rapid-fire roundup of Wednesday's madness:

Mahrez Still Has the Magic!

Eighty-two seconds. That's all Riyad Mahrez needed to announce Algeria's arrival. The 34-year-old wizard rolled back the years with a brace against Sudan, proving age is just a number when you've got that much sauce.

Young gun Maza then grabbed Algeria's 100th-ever AFCON goal to complete the 3-0 rout. Sudan's 10 men tried valiantly, but when Mahrez is in this mood, you might as well pack it in.

Amad's Heroics Keep the Crown Safe

Defending champions Ivory Coast looked nervous against Mozambique until Manchester United's Amad Diallo smashed home a beauty just after halftime.

The 1-0 win wasn't pretty, but three points is three points. Meanwhile, Mozambique brought on 42-year-old Domingues, now officially the oldest outfield player in AFCON history. Respect to the legend!

Stoppage-Time Stunner!

Burkina Faso versus Equatorial Guinea was the match of the day, hands down. Tied 1-1 heading into injury time, it looked destined for a draw until absolute bedlam erupted.

Minoungou struck in the 95th minute, then Tapsoba added another three minutes later! Two goals in the dying seconds turned a point into three. Daylight robbery? Maybe. Entertaining? Absolutely.

Cameroon Tame Gabon

The Central African Derby was a tighter affair, with Cameroon's Enow Eyong scoring early to secure a 1-0 win over Gabon.
