The continental football governing body is seeking for some cash injection after struggling in recent times

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened an invitation to tender for the broadcast rights to their competitions from 2023 to 2025 including the Africa Cup of Nations editions in the aforementioned years.

CAF is seeking a broadcast partner for its flagship tournament, starting with the 2023 edition, which will be played in 2024 in the Ivory Coast, including the Champions League, Confederation Cup, African Nations Championships (CHAN), and Super Cup in the next two years.

“The tender process will allow CAF to select the companies that are best placed to achieve CAF’s objectives of providing world-class coverage of the tournament and offering fans in Africa and internationally a high-quality viewing experience across a range of fields including Host Broadcast Production, Satellite distribution and Graphics,” CAF said on its website on Friday.

CAF secretary general Veron Mosengo-Omba said: “CAF understands the importance of partnering with world class suppliers to achieve our goals. TV is very important in the strategic goals of CAF and the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire will give us an opportunity together with the new partners to deliver what we all believe will be the best AFCON in living memory.”

The invitation to tender comes at a delicate time for CAF which has struggled financially ever since a $1 billion commercial representation deal with France-based Lagardere was canceled in November 2019.

CAF has to pay Lagardere $50 million in compensation. The body, it is understood, has already paid half the amount, but the compensation has further squeezed the finances.

South African firm SuperSport has been broadcasting CAF’s tournaments including this season’s Champions League and Confederation Cup as well as the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

Interested parties will have to submit their bids on all the services included, or just specific ones, before May 25.
