Chelsea's hopes for a Premier League top 4 push have been dealt a significant blow by the new of the wingers injury

Chelsea have been dealt an early headache as Liam Rosenior confirmed that young winger Jamie Gittens faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The 21-year-old picked up a hamstring tear in last week’s win over West Ham, and the outlook is far from encouraging for the Blues.

Gittens’ afternoon against West Ham ended almost as soon as it began. Named in the starting XI, the winger lasted just 26 minutes before pulling up and asking to be substituted, immediately raising concern on the Chelsea bench. At the time, Rosenior was unable to give a clear diagnosis, but the signs were never good.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s latest fixture, the head coach delivered the bad news supporters feared.

“Jamie is looking more long-term,” Rosenior admitted. “It’s a real shame. A tear in his hamstring.” While no return date has been set, the tone of the update suggests Chelsea will be without the winger for a significant period.

His absence was already felt as he missed the trip to Arsenal, and there is little optimism of a quick comeback.

Chelsea’s wing options stretched thin

Gittens’ injury leaves Chelsea short in wide areas at a tricky point in the season. Although he hasn’t fully nailed down a starting role, his contribution across 27 appearances made him a valuable rotation option, especially on the left flank.

With Tyrique George recently loaned out to Everton, Chelsea are now relying heavily on Pedro Neto, Estêvão and Alejandro Garnacho as their natural wingers.

None of the trio has managed to find consistency for different reasons, which only adds to the concern. Cole Palmer can operate from the right if needed, but that shuffle also impacts Chelsea’s options in the number 10 role.

For Rosenior, it’s an unwelcome problem. Losing Gittens limits flexibility, depth and energy out wide, and managing those gaps could define how Chelsea cope in the weeks ahead.
