Arsenal ran rampant on Wolves in the final match of the campaign after losing the league title to Manchester City as they finished the season in style.

Mikel Arteta’s men were hurt after failing to win the league title but were remarkable in their last home game of the season where they taught Wolves some lessons by thrashing them 5-0.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka was playing his last match for the Gunners after announcing earlier last week that he will be leaving the Emirates at the end of the season.

It was a grand style farewell for the Swiss midfielder after scoring the first two goals of the game for Arsenal in the first half before Bukayo Saka made it three for the home side. Gabriel Jesus added the fourth goal of the game in the second half and Jakub Kiwior added the fifth goal of the game.

As it happened

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta fielded an unchanged eleven that was defeated at Nottingham Forest last weekend while the Wolves manager made six changes to his side that drew Everton.

Arsenal opened the scoring in the 15th minute of the game when Granit Xhaka leapt to connect with a lovely cross and scored with a header that bounced off the ground and goes inside the left post. The goalkeeper had no chance to make a save.

Shortly after, the midfielder added his second of the day to make it 2-0 for Arsenal as he was in the right place at the right time to get to the rebound inside the box and gleefully rifle the ball low into the middle of the net.

The third goal came in the 27th minute when Bukayo Saka received a delightful pass inside the box and smashed a precise shot inside the left post as they ran rampant in the first half.

The second half started and the Gunners did not relent. They scored the fourth goal in the 58th minute when Gabriel Jesus scored from quite a difficult position as he leaps high to connect with a cross and powers his header low inside the right post.

Arsenal crowned the game with the fifth goal when Jakub Kiwior latches on to an inch-perfect cross into the box and drills a low shot into the bottom right corner as they finish the season in a grand style.

The stadium was filled with joy when the referee blew the final whistle and the fans chanted Xhaka’s name. The midfielder is set to leave and players and fans gave him a good reception.
