Super Falcons’ former captain hangs up boots after historic career

Veteran Nigerian international Ebi Onome has officially announced her retirement from football.

The former Super Falcons captain released a farewell graphic on social media that underlines a decorated career for club and country.

The retirement announcement, headlined “Official Retirement Announcement” and shared via the handle @onosky5, celebrates a career packed with landmark achievements for the Super Falcons and long-serving figure in African women’s football.

A record-setting international resume

She also featured in seven Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) tournaments, winning the continental crown four times.

She recorded over 100 international caps, an Olympic Games appearance and two All-African Games participations, including a gold medal.

Leadership and advocacy

During her career Onome served as captain of the Super Falcons. The retirement graphic describes her as “Legend. Captain. Advocate.” and frames her departure as the close of a chapter that began “from a girl with a dream… to a legend with a legacy.”
