With a 114-103 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, the reigning champion Denver Nuggets took a 1-0 lead in their NBA Playoffs first-round series.

Star player for the Nuggets Nikola Jokic scored 32 points to help his team win after narrowly trailing at halftime.

Despite having a sluggish start, the Nuggets overcame the Lakers in every game during the regular season, taking the lead with a 13-0 run in the third quarter.

The Lakers attempted a late rally with Anthony Davis scoring 32 points and LeBron James adding 27, but Denver held fast.

The Phoenix Suns were defeated 120-95 by the Minnesota Timberwolves in another Western Conference game.

The Suns defeated the Timberwolves in all three of their regular season meetings, but in the opening round of the playoffs, the home team triumphed thanks to a standout performance from Anthony Edwards, who scored 33 points.

The star player for the Suns, Kevin Durant, scored 31 points, but his team lost heavily in the third quarter when Edwards taunted Durant after he made a three-point shot.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks both triumphed in the Eastern Conference.

The Cavaliers defeated the Orlando Magic 97-83, while the Knicks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 111-104.

In response to Philadelphia's rally in the third quarter, the second-seeded Knicks pulled ahead late in the game to secure the victory, powered by Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson, who each scored 22 points.

Donavon Mitchell scored 30 points to lead the Cavaliers in an outstanding performance that never let them fall behind the Magic.
