Team Uganda got a rude awakening on day two of the ongoing Africa mixed badminton championship in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Uganda, who had started brightly on day one by winning all games against Mozambique, only managed one victory in five games as they succumbed to a 4-1 loss to hosts South Africa.

Uganda's only victory was recorded in the Men's doubles, with Expeddito Emundu combining with Muzafaru Lubega to beat Cameron Coetze and Robert Summers in straight sets (21-12, 21-15).

Earlier on, the mixed doubles partnership of Brian Kasirye and Fadilah Shamika Mohammed Rafi failed to yield results as they lost to Jarred Elliot and Amy Ackerman in straight sets (21-19, 21-16).

Gladys Mbabazi and Brian Kasirye didn't show up in the Women's and Men's singles losing in straight sets to their opponents.

Mbabazi lost to Johanita Scholtz (21-18, 21-11), while Kasirye failed to get passed Robert White despite winning the first set (15-21, 21-12, 23-21).

With the quarter finals set for Wednesday, Uganda's chances of claiming a gold medal are very thin.

It should be remembered that Uganda has managed nine medals at this showpiece in the time they have participated. One silver and eight bronze.
