Ugandan top female Badminton player Fadilah Shamika Mohammed Rafi knows precisely what it feels like to go through low sports moments.

The 18-year-old won gold at the Africa mixed badminton championships in South Africa and had to return in time to feature at the Junior badminton championships in Kampala, where she only managed `bronze, but Fadilah says she is proud of her performance.

“I feel like after winning bronze at the Junior championships, my hopes are high; I feel like I am pumped up for the upcoming events because I performed well,” she noted.

“My focus now is to work harder and keep my consistency up in both the seniors and Juniors categories but most importantly also try and be ready for other international tournaments.”

Uganda managed ten bronze medals at the Junior championships, dominated by the United Arab Emirates.

Uganda’s medals came in the Women’s singles, doubles, Men’s doubles and Mixed doubles.

Tracey Naluwoza and Shamika Mohammed Rafi won silver in the women’s singles, Guna Kusal and Regan Michael Nsubuga won bronze in the men’s mixed doubles

Fadilah Shamika managed two bronze medals in singles and women's doubles, where she played alongside Tracey Naluwoza.

With the All Africa games shifted to 2024, Team Uganda will have ample time to prepare for other significant events like the Olympics.

However, in between all that, top-ranked individual players will try their best to pick up as many points as possible in the different invitational international tournaments, which will ease their qualification to the main events.
