Winners emerge at Government College Ughelli (GCU) Relays

The Delta Model Secondary School clinched the top prize in the girls’ category, and Federal Government College, Warri, emerged as the overall best team in the boys’ category.

Delta Model Secondary School and Federal Government College have emerged as the winners of the fifth Government College Ughelli (GCU) Relays.

Delta Model Secondary School clinched the top prize in the girls’ category, and Federal Government College, Warri, emerged as the overall best team in the boys’ category.

The Warri-based colleges dominated GCU Relays and produced the Best Athletes, Victor Ludorum and Victrix Ludorum, in Nwaiwu Chukwunonso and Efetobore Sophia.

The president of General Worldwide (PGWW) of Government College, Ughelli, Albert Akpomudje, was elated by the hitch-free and colourful event.

He expressed gratitude for the assistance, financial sponsorship, and physical presence of both young and old seamen.

“The fifth GCU Relays was a huge success with impressive attendance by Old Boys, with the likes of Chief Miller Uloho, HRH A.Z Agho, Dr. Okah Avae, Dr. Richard Obiuwevbi to name a few, my special thanks go to the main sponsor of this edition, Joseph Arumemi- Ikhide, sponsor of the bonfire, Majoroh, handsome donations from Chief J. J. Akpieyi, Prof. O. Omatete and the Onosode-GAMSU Foundation, amongst others too numerous to mention.

“My special appreciation goes to the Ejiro Omonode-led Organising Committee for the hardwork put into the planning and execution, particularly, the publicity given to it, making it look like an international event.”

The yearly GCU Relays is an initiative of the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association.
