Gout Gout signed off from high school competitions in style by breaking the 400m record in Queensland.
Australia's most electrifying teenage sprinter Gout Gout, has once again delivered a stunning performance. This time, on home soil, as the 17-year-old added another remarkable achievement to his name just days before his final high school exams.
Competing for the last time in his Ipswich Grammar School colours, Gout took to the track at the GPS Track and Field Championships in Queensland on Friday.
Known for his dominance in the 100m and 200m events, he opted for a new challenge: the 400m. The decision paid off spectacularly, as he stormed to victory with a time of 46.14 seconds, smashing the existing meet record.
The victory was particularly sweet as it occurred at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre, the very venue where the young star first rose to prominence. "This is the place where I found my speed," Gout Gout said after his record-breaking run.

Usain Bolt cautions rising star Gout Gout on budding career
Jamaican track icon Usain Bolt shared his word of advice for rising sprint star Gout Gout on his budding career.
But one record wasn't enough for the day. Shortly after his 400m triumph, Gout anchored his school's 4x100m relay team to victory. Their time of 41.30 seconds also set a new Queensland GPS record, capping off a memorable final appearance in his red and white striped jersey.
"I’ve been at this school since grade 7 and they’ve definitely helped me," the Gout shared. "It’s a great school, it’s the school where I met my friends and teachers around me." With his high school career now behind him, he is eager for the next chapter. "It feels great, and I just can’t wait to go on the next journey."
A year of broken records
This latest feat concludes an iconic year for the prodigy. He previously shattered a 56-year-old Australian 200m record set by Peter Norman at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, clocking 20.04 seconds in Brisbane. He then bettered his own mark twice, lowering it to 20.02 before running a wind-assisted 19.84 to claim the Australian title. In doing so, Gout Gout surpassed the junior times of sprinting legends like Usain Bolt (19.93) and Justin Gatlin (19.86).
His international debut at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo also made waves. Although he finished fourth in his semi-final with a time of 20.36 seconds in wet conditions and missed the final, the experience was invaluable. "Semifinalist and got to compete against the big guys. I couldn’t be prouder of myself," the sprinter declared at the time.
