World Recoord holder Tobi Amusan has started the new year with a bang after securing a Top 5 position on the World Athletics rankings list of the best athletes in the 2025 season.

Their outstanding performances in hurdles and shot put have kept Nigeria prominently featured on the global athletics stage.

Amusan, who captured a silver medal in the 100m hurdles at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, finished the year as the third-best in her event worldwide. Amassing 1,430 ranking points, she was surpassed only by gold medalist Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland and America's Grace Stark.

Consequently, Nathaniel enjoyed a phenomenal breakout season, ending the year as the fifth-ranked 400m hurdler globally and 15th in the men's overall standings. The 22-year-old made a historic Diamond League debut, reaching the final and securing a third-place finish.
