Tobi Amusan will lead a list of top Nigerian athletes set to compete against the world's best in their respective events at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Eugene.

Nigerian track and field enthusiasts can revel in the fact that five athletes will compete at arguably the deepest single-day meet in athletics history at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Eugene on Saturday, July 5.

The 50th edition of the Prefontaine Classic will see nearly 300 athletes representing more than 40 countries descend on Hayward Field at the University of Oregon to compete in 27 professional events.

Fans will witness 98 Olympic and Paralympic medalists – including 48 Olympic and Paralympic gold medalists – and 14 world record holders in one of the deepest single-day track and field meets ever assembled.

With the gathering of athletics stars listed to participate, Nigerian athletes will also partake in the highly anticipated meet, summarised below.

1 - Tobi Amusan: Women's 100mH

World Record holder Tobi Amusan will compete in a non-Diamond League event against a stacked field that includes Olympic champion Masai Rusell and world champion Danielle Williams.

The Nigerian hurdling queen stands a good chance to claim a famous win as her Season's Best (SB) of 12.24s ranks her the fourth fastest in the world this year.

2 - Ezekiel Nathaniel: Men's 400mH

On the back of a successful college season highlighted by becoming the NCAA champion, Ezekiel Nathaniel will make his Diamond League debut competing in his trademark event against a loaded field that includes Olympic champion Rai Benjamin and silver medallist Alison Dos Santos, as well as former world champion Abdulrahman Samba.

Nathaniel's national record of 47.49s stands as the fifth fastest in the world this year, and in the absence of world record holder Karsten Warholm, he has a chance of holding his own for a Top 3 finish against the world's best hurdlers.

3 - Chuks Enekwechi: Men's Shot Put

In the field events, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will be Nigeria's only representative, going against the world's best shot put throwers.

The multiple African champion has a SB throw of 21.62m, which he'll gun to produce an improved performance and challenge for a Top 3 finish.

4 - Rosemary Chukwuma: Women's 100m Invitational

The women's 100m invitational will feature a respectable field of speedsters and Rosemary Chukwuma is one of the stars to headline the field.

Other top athletes are American 60m record holder Aleia Hobbs, Jamaican sprint sensations Alana Reid and Brianna Williams, and Liberia's star sprinter Thelma Davies.

5 - Favour Ofili: Women's 100m

Amid the controversy over her nationality switch to Turkey, Favour Ofili will race in the women's 100m, facing Olympic champion Julien Alfred, World champion Sha'Carri Richardson, and world leader Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.

Having clocked a blistering personal best of 10.87s in her last race in Texas, the 22-year-old will surely not be a pushover and is capable of causing a major upset against the loaded field.
