UFC legend BJ Penn was arrested for domestic violence.

UFC legend BJ Penn was arrested last Sunday on domestic violence charges, as documented in a disturbing video he posted on social media.

Online records show Penn was arrested and later released on $2,000 bail. According to court records, no formal charges have yet been filed.

The former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion posted a video on Instagram, filmed by a friend, showing police surrounding Penn in his bed as he asks why he is being arrested.

What Penn said

Officers state he is being arrested on harassment charges, and the MMA legend continues to argue before eventually getting out of bed and being handcuffed.

"How can I be arrested for harassment? This is my house," Penn tells the officers.

He continued, "I just went to get the mail. Can we call a cop I know to talk to you guys? Why are you arresting me again? What harassment? What does harassment mean?"

No further details regarding the arrest have been released.

Penn was arrested again on Monday on the same domestic violence charges with a $1,000 bail, before being released.

A further search of online records in Penn's home state of Hawaii shows the retired UFC fighter has several ongoing cases.

Most recently, on May 20, a judge approved a restraining order after Penn failed to appear in court.

According to court records, the judge prohibited Penn from "threatening/physically abusing/mentally abusing/maliciously damaging or interfering with property/prohibiting personal contact with the other party and the protected minors; [Penn] is prohibited from coming within 100 yards of any residence, workplace, or school of the other party and the protected minors."

The case against Penn was filed by his former partner, Shealen Waiwa, and the restraining order also applies to two children.

The restraining order is in effect until March 10, 2030.

The 46-year-old Penn last fought in the UFC in 2019, suffering his seventh consecutive loss after a decision defeat to Clay Guida. This marked the end of his UFC career.
