Ronaldo has offered a realistic but encouraging view of Neymar's desire to play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Brazilian football icon Ronaldo Nazário has offered a sobering yet supportive perspective on Neymar's ambition to feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, acknowledging the immense challenges the forward faces on his road to recovery.

Neymar is eyeing one last shot at World Cup glory when the global showpiece heads to the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer.

However, his history has been dominated by injuries, most notably a serious knee ligament tear that sidelined him for over a year.

Following an underwhelming stint at Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, Neymar returned to boyhood club Santos in Brazil. While his minutes on the pitch have remained limited due to ongoing physical setbacks, the former Barcelona and PSG star has found renewed happiness off the pitch, particularly with the expected arrival of his second child with partner Bruna Biancardi.

What Ronaldo said

Speaking on Denilson’s podcast, Ronaldo shared his thoughts on Neymar’s current situation and long-term goal of returning to the international stage.

“It’s not easy to be out for a year, come back from a serious injury and start playing again as if nothing had happened. What Neymar is going through is very natural. It’s happened to almost everyone who has had an injury that lasts more than a year.

“You can look at the statistics. It’s very difficult,” Ronaldo said.

The two-time Ballon d’Or winner urged patience and caution, not pressure, in Neymar’s journey back to top form.

Ronaldo continued, “Of course, when he’s playing he’ll give his best for the club, but we have to respect the plan. He doesn’t have to push himself to the limit all the time during this recovery process, especially since he’s our biggest hope for the Brazilian national team.

“I talked to him a lot so he could take it easy, stay focused, train hard, and keep his legs strong. The goal has to be the World Cup.”

Neymar remains Brazil’s all-time leading scorer and a talismanic figure for the Seleção.
