Napoli's Garnacho pursuit

Following the exit of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain, the Partenopei had €70 million to play with and immediately raced into the market to sign a replacement.

Upon Antonio Conte’s request, Manna pursued Garnacho as a prime target to replace the Georgian and submitted a €40 million bid that was rebuffed by the Red Devils, who were holding out for a higher fee.

Napoli pressed on with the negotiations and even offered Victor Osimhen at a cut price per reports, but could not complete the deal before the end of the transfer window. While it was initially supposed an agreement with the Red Devils was the stumbling block, Manna’s interview revealed what truly happened.

Garnacho was a subject of interest for several clubs

What was said

The director told reporters they submitted a significant offer to the Red Devils—an unnamed amount—but found issues negotiating a contract with Garnacho, who wanted a sizable salary that would have upset their current wage structure.

“We made an important bid to Manchester United for Garnacho. We really wanted him,” Manna said.

“We weren’t able to agree on personal terms with Alejandro; he requested an important salary to leave in January and we must respect our players.”
