‘We're rock bottom now’ - Shaw issues apology to Man United fans after losing UEL final

Following Manchester United's Europa League final loss, a disappointed Luke Shaw apologised to the club's supporters.

Tottenham defeated Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao on Wednesday night, ending United's hopes of rescuing their season and securing their first trophy in 17 years.

Brennan Johnson's first-half goal proved to be the decisive moment, a somewhat untidy strike that Manchester United defender Luke Shaw was unable to intercept.

The goal was enough to secure a victory for their opponents and more significantly, qualify them for next season’s UEFA Champions League competitions.

Shaw’s message to fans

Shaw has stated that the team must accept accountability for their failures and confront what has been their worst season.

“We're very sorry for what they have had to go through this season. Like I said, it's been nowhere near good enough, and I can only apologise for that,' Shaw told BBC Sport

“I think we have to look at the positives and the only positive is that we can only go up from here. We're rock bottom now and we have to find the way to drag ourselves back.

“I can say 100 per cent right now that [Ruben Amorim] is the right man. I know results have not been good at all.

“I've been here for a long time now and I've been through different managers but Ruben, for me, I talk on my behalf and I'm sure I can talk on behalf of all the players, Ruben is 100 per cent the right manager to take us back where this club should be.”

Manchester United's Premier League form is a concern, even though their recent loss was their first European defeat of the season.

They currently sit 16th and have won only about 25% of their domestic matches under the Portuguese manager.
