PSG beat Liverpool at Anfield

The Reds were the best team in the league phase of the competition, finishing first and clinching top-seed status. The Parisians on the other hand, finished 15th and had to go through the playoffs.

Suffice to say the Merseysiders were the favourites when the Round-of-16 draws pitted them against PSG, but it was the French champions that dominated the tie.

Although Arne Slot's side won the first leg, the consensus was that PSG were the superior side in the match, but for Allison's heroics, they would have won.

Enrique expressed confidence leading up to the second leg that his side would beat Liverpool at Anfield, and they did. PSG won 1-0 last night, sending the game to extra-time and subsequently penalties. Gianluigi Donarumma saved Darwin Nunez’s and Curtis Jones’s attempts, while all four PSG takers scored theirs to ensure they advanced into the quarter-finals

What Enrique said

Speaking after the game, the visibly elated Spaniard hailed his team for living up to his promise before sending out a thinly veiled threat to the rest of Europe that they would only get better.

“This is just the beginning,” the former Barcelona coach assured. “Our mentality is to be better. We showed our strong personality and our character, and we will play our brand of football no matter what pitch we’re on. I’m very happy and don’t know what to say. Proud of this great team.”

Given PSG’s form in the league phase, in which they failed to win half their games, and their current winning run in 2025, Enrique's statement is more than speculation; it is already reality.
