Born in Canada to Nigerian parents, David has represented Nigeria twice at the U-23 level but has now applied to play for Canada at the full international level.

In an interview with The Athletic, David explained that his decision was driven by a sense of gratitude and loyalty to Canadian football, which he believes has played a major role in his development as a player.

"Canadian football raised me. So I feel like I owe it back to Canada to perform for them," David said.
