Slot has revealed how Liverpool have won the league title for a very long time.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has revealed that he had a strong conviction "for a long time" that his team would clinch the Premier League title this season.

The Reds secured their 20th English League championship on Sunday with a resounding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, wrapping up the title race with four games to spare.

This win ended Manchester City's dominant four-year reign and saw Arsenal finish as runners-up once again.

In his debut season at the helm, having taken over from Jurgen Klopp last summer, Slot has guided Liverpool to a remarkable title win.

What Slot said

Speaking to Sky Sports after the celebrations, the Dutchman admitted that his belief in their title-winning capabilities had been present for a significant portion of the campaign, partly due to a dip in form from their main rivals.

He said, "A long time, to be honest. For almost the whole season we were on top of the league, and we had the team that was able to win it, but also you know how tough the Premier League is. You cannot take anything for granted but the belief for us to win it was almost throughout the whole season."

Slot also acknowledged the role of Manchester City's unexpected struggles.

He continued, "It helped that Man City had a difficult spell, which they hadn't had in five years. That helped us a bit as well. When the season started, every one would have been happy if we finished in the top four. But that wasn't fair for our players, who are much better than that."

"It is difficult to put into words. The scenes here and before the game tells you more than I can describe. [The fans being here] is what makes it special. Three or four years ago they won the league. It was an amazing accomplishment, but the fans weren't there. So you can feel how important it was for them to be here. And the boys did an outstanding job today, including our fans," he added.

This title win marks Liverpool's second in five years but the first time in 35 years that they have been able to celebrate the Premier League crown with their passionate supporters inside Anfield after the Covid-19 pandemic largely overshadowed their 2020 triumph.
