Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed the cause of Taiwo Awoniyi’s poor performance this season.
Awoniyi has struggled to get playing time, which has seen his minutes limited since his return from an injury.
The Super Eagles star’s position has been taken by Chris Woods, who has started the season in style.
The striker has scored eight goals and is currently behind Erling Haaland, who has 12 Premier League goals this season.

What Espirito said
Espirito was quick to point out the reason behind Awoniyi’s poor performance and pinning it in his return to play for the Super Eagles.
According to Nottinghamshire Live, Espirito said, "What we have been trying with is to increase his game time.
“Unfortunately, if I look back, going into the previous (October) international break, he played and then immediately went with his national team and played five minutes. That was a step back.
"We had him for all of the last international break and he was able to play 60 minutes in a very hard game (against Arsenal). It was a very physical game against tough centre-halves, and he did very well."
However, despite Espirito’s claims, the manager believes Awoniyi will bounce back, declaring his trust in him.
