Super Falcons will play Portugal on Monday

Nigeria's Super Falcons, nine-time champions of Africa, are set to face the senior women's national team of Portugal in a friendly match in Lisbon on Monday as they intensify preparations for the 13th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco next month.

The Falcons' contingent departed from Abuja on Sunday morning via a Royal Air Maroc flight, making their way to Casablanca before traveling on to Lisbon.

This follows a week of rigorous training sessions in Abuja at the MKO Abiola National Stadium and the Turf Arena, alongside visa processing procedures at the Portuguese and Moroccan embassies.

Head Coach Justine Madugu has been putting his squad through their paces, with key players like goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie and Tochukwu Oluehi, experienced defender Osinachi Ohale, midfielder Christy Ucheibe, and forward Francisca Ordega actively participating in the training camps.

The squad will be further bolstered by the arrival of US-based defender Michelle Alozie, Saudi Arabia-based Ashleigh Plumptre, captain Rasheedat Ajibade, and fellow midfielders Halimatu Ayinde, Jennifer Echegini, and Toni Payne.

Forwards Esther Okoronkwo, Rinsola Babajide, and Chinwendu Ihezuo are also expected to link up with the team in the Portuguese capital.

Monday's friendly against Portugal will kick off at 7:00 PM Portugal time (which is also 7:00 PM WAT) at the Estádio José Gomes in the Amadora precinct of Lisbon.

This encounter is part of the Super Falcons' final tune-up before the WAFCON finals, scheduled from July 5.

Nigeria is drawn in Group B of the competition and will play their matches at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.

Beyond the Portugal friendly, the Super Falcons have another high-profile friendly lined up against regional rivals Ghana's Black Queens.

This highly anticipated clash is set to take place in Morocco on Sunday, June 29, just days before the continental tournament officially commences.

The Super Falcons are determined to clinch their 10th continental title, solidifying their status as Africa's most successful women's national team.
