The experienced striker continues to flourish for Bayer Leverkusen in the absence of Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface.

German champions Bayer Leverkusen have seen a shift in its scoring hierarchy as Patrik Schick has emerged as the club's top scorer, displacing Nigeria's Victor Boniface, who is currently sidelined due to injury.

Schick's recent match-winning goal against Union Berlin marked his sixth goal in just four matches, coinciding with his 100th Bundesliga appearance for the club.

Boniface, who had been enjoying a strong season with six goals in ten league matches, suffered a thigh injury while on international duty with the Super Eagles.

This injury occurred during Nigeria's AFCON qualifier against Rwanda, where he played until the 89th minute before being substituted. Coach Xabi Alonso confirmed that Boniface will be out until next year, which has left a significant gap in Leverkusen's attacking lineup.

In Boniface’s absence, Schick has stepped up remarkably. His latest goal not only brought him level with Boniface in Bundesliga scoring but also elevated him to nine goals across all competitions, surpassing Boniface’s tally of eight.

This impressive form has been crucial for Leverkusen, who are currently third in the Bundesliga standings with 23 points, just six behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Following the match against Union Berlin, where Schick scored the bizarre winner set up by super-sub Florian Wirtz, he expressed his determination to keep contributing to the team's success.

However, it was Boniface's earlier contributions that had made him a key player for Leverkusen this season.

Leverkusen pile on the pressure on Bayern with a win.

Leverkusen have now come to rely heavily on Schick in Boniface’s absence as Alonso looks to maintain their competitive edge in both domestic and European competitions.

The loss of Boniface is undoubtedly a setback for the defending champions as they aim to reclaim their title and push for further success this season.
