Nigerian star Tolu Arokodare is set to leave his club this summer, as confirmed by the sporting director.

Super Eagles star Tolu Arokodare could be set for a future in the Premier League or LALIGA after Genk’s sporting director, Dimitri De Condé, said that he expected the striker to leave the club.

What Conde said

In a conversation with Het Belang Van Limburg, Conde said that they expect Arokodare to leave the club, adding that they are prepared for that eventuality.

“I estimate the chance of a possible departure of our top scorer at 99%. There is no concrete offer on the table yet, but there is a huge demand from brokers who want to act as an intermediary.”

“From experience, I say he’s leaving. Arokodare is very well in the market and is also ready to take the next step. With Oh Hyeon-gyu, there is a lot of confidence.

“With him, we already have his successor in the house. We also have Robin Mirisola of Jong Genk as the third striker. He is only 18 and has a very nice profile. He's done a lot of training and has a positive impression on Coach Fink.”

All eyes on Tolu

The 24-year-old Festac-born striker was signed in the winter transfer window of 2023 from Amiens in France as a direct replacement for his compatriot, Paul Onuachu, who bagged a move to the Premier League.

The signing proved a stroke of scouting genius, as he replaced Onuachu’s physicality and, in his more recent times at the club, goals. Tolu finished the Belgian Pro League as joint top scorer (21 goals), and he took the history-making Union Saint-Gilloise to prevent him from leading the Blauw-Wit to their fifth league title.

Tolu has been in inspired form this campaign and it has been impossible to shake off the links away from the club. "For the media noise, I just try to stay focused and keep a clear head,” he said when asked about the reports linking him away from Belgium.

And while he has pledged his loyalty to Genk on occasions, he admitted to having Premier League ambitions. "The future is unwritten, but like many players, it’s a dream of mine to one day play in the Premier League."
