The coach and his Sky Blues are now nine points clear at the top of the football league table, with Finidi George and others behind him.

Daniel Ogunmodede, the head coach of Remo Stars, is riding high after his team secured a significant away victory against Sunshine Stars, solidifying their position at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, table.

The match, held in the vibrant atmosphere of the Southwest derby, saw Remo Stars display an impressive performance, clinching a 2-1 victory in Ikenne on Saturday.

With the latest win, Remo Stars have now extended their lead to nine points over former Super Eagles coach Finidi George and his Rivers United team.

The game kicked off with a bang as Alex Oyowah scored a stunning diving header just nine minutes in, courtesy of a well-placed cross from Sikiru Alimi.

This early goal set the tone for the first half, allowing Remo to dominate play. Skipper Nduka Junior showed his vision by assisting Ibrahim Abubakar, who lobbed the ball over the Sunshine goalkeeper to double their lead before the half-hour mark.

Despite a spirited response from Sunshine Stars in the second half, where they managed to pull one back through Matthew Samuel's goal, Remo Stars held firm. Their resilience was evident as they defended their narrow lead to register their fifth consecutive victory in the league and their fourth on the road this season.

With this victory, Remo Stars now sit proudly at the top of the NPFL table with 45 points from 22 matches. Their success has not only boosted team morale but also intensified the pressure on teams like Shooting Stars and Rivers United, who are trailing behind.

Finidi George's Rivers United will be looking to bounce back when they face Heartland in Owerri on Sunday, as they seek to end a five-match winless streak.

Finidi George is looking for his second NPFL title but has not won in his last five matches.

Ogunmodede's leadership and tactical acumen have been instrumental in this remarkable run for Remo Stars. As he reflects on his team's position, he emphasises the importance of staying focused and maintaining their momentum as they chase their first NPFL title.

Kick-starting February with maximum points. Let's stay focused on our goals and believing in ourselves," he posted on X.

The excitement surrounding Nigerian football continues to grow, with fans eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for both Remo Stars and their rivals in this thrilling league season.
