Cristiano Romero is unhappy with the top hierarchy of Tottenham football club after Spurs' disappointing 4-3 loss to Chelsea.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has issued a thinly veiled criticism of the club's lack of ambition in the transfer market.

Romero's comments come after Tottenham's disappointing 4-3 loss to Chelsea.

Romero faults Tottenham failure to invest

The Argentine international believes that the club's failure to invest heavily in the squad has hindered their ability to compete with the Premier League's top teams.

"Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, doesn't do well, strengthens again, and now they're seeing results. Those are the things to imitate," Romero told Telemundo Deportes.

"You have to realize that something is going wrong, hopefully, they realize it. The last few years, it's always the same: first, the players, then the coaching staff changes, and it's always the same people responsible."

Tottenham Hotspurs has struggled for consistency this season despite investment in the squad under Ange Postecoglou.

Romero believes Tottenham needs to do more

However, Romero believes that more needs to be done to compete with the top teams.

"We are very happy with this staff, me and my colleagues. We love how they work and the football they try to play. We'll try to move on quickly," Romero said.

The Argentine defender also acknowledged the impact of injuries on the team's performance.

"We've suffered a lot of injuries. Players are the first one to be criticized, then if we lose 10 games, the staff can be changed, but nobody talks about what is actually happening," he said.

Tottenham's failure to consistently challenge for major trophies has led to frustration among fans and pundits alike.
