Super Falcons legend Desire Oparanozie has shared how Nigerian players can better position themselves for big moves to European clubs.
Former Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie has offered some very strategic advice for players who want to make a landmark move to big clubs.
The 31-year-old forward retired after featuring for Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where the Super Falcons couldn’t make it past England, losing on penalties.
During her playing career, Oparanozie featured for numerous clubs, the likes of VFL Wolfsburg Ladies, Russian Women's Rossiyanka, Ataşehir Belediyespor [Turkish Women's First Football League], Guingamp in the French Division 1 Féminine, before moving to Chinese Women's Super League club Wuhan Jianghan University in 2022.

EXCLUSIVE Bolaji Olamide: Meet Remo Stars 15-goal youngster ready to fire Super Falcons to WAFCON glory
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have a new rising star who has an eye for goals. Watch out for Bolaji Olamide.
On the international scene, Oparanozie played at four editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup (2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023) and won the Women’s African Cup of Nations with Nigeria on four occasions (2010, 2014, 2016, 2018).
She won the golden boot in 2014, after scoring five goals to power the Super Falcons of Nigeria to the title.
Desire Oparanozie drops advice Victor Osimhen will find helpful
During an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports Nigeria, Desire Oparanozie was asked why no Super Falcons player has won the Women’s UEFA Champions League, since Asisat Oshoala who last won it with Barcelona.
The six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year won the Champions League with Barcelona Féminine in 2021 and added two more in 2023 and 2024.
Oparanozie told Pulse Sports Nigeria that the major issue is branding and positioning to attract the top clubs.
She also added that having an agent who is skillfully good at his/her job is the main game changer.
Well I think it has to do with branding and positioning. When I say positioning I’m talking about we need to be deliberate about our agents. There are some kind of agents that will help us make some power moves like getting us into the top teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona, you know all those high teams that play in the Champions League.
For as long as we can find our way to those teams, we have 90-99% chances of winning the Champions League. So I think it has more to do with the agents. Some of these agents, the ones that know their onions know how to even move a bad player to a good team. So if we can get that right, we would be good.
Osimhen might need to change his agent
Oparanozie’s thoughts echoes that of Pulse Sports Nigeria reporter Ayoola Kelechi who outlined three reasons that’s possibly responsible for top European clubs avoiding Nigeria’s top striker Victor Osimhen. One such reason is that Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda is not pulling his weight enough or maybe he’s not just an A-list super agent.

Osimhen to Arsenal: Super Eagles star is available for the Gunners after Sesko blow
Victor Osimhen could be the answer to Arsenal's search for a world-class striker ahead of next season.
Last season, Osimhen could not secure a blockbuster move to Chelsea, Manchester United, or PSG who were all heavily linked with the goalpoacher.
Osimhen went on loan to Galatasaray in Turkey where he banged in the goals (37 across all competitions) and led the Istanbul outfit to a domestic double. Yet, a move to a big European club is still not forthcoming.
With two months until the start of the 25/26 season, it remains to be seen if Osimhen will take the bull by the horn and change his agent in order to secure a move to a big European club.
