Ex-Manchester United star Scott McTominay is living a new lease of life in Italy while the Red Devils languish in the bottom half of the Premier League

Thrown out of Manchester United’s plans, Scott McTominay has flipped the script in sensational fashion wth Napoli this season.

The former Red Devils midfielder has shattered a long-standing Scottish record in Serie A, firing Napoli to the top of the table and placing them firmly in pole position for the Scudetto.

McTominay breaks historic record with Torino brace

McTominay scored twice in Napoli’s crucial 2-0 win over Torino, marking his third consecutive match on the scoresheet and bringing his season tally to 11 Serie A goals.

In doing so, he surpassed the legendary Denis Law’s record of 10 goals for a Scottish player in a single Serie A campaign, which Law had set with Torino back in the 1961-62 season.

Not only that, but McTominay also became the first Scottish midfielder to reach double figures in a season across Europe’s top five leagues since Charlie Adam scored 12 goals for Blackpool in the 2010-11 Premier League season.

His first goal came by getting ahead of Saul Coco to convert a low cross from Zambo Anguissa, while his second was another clinical finish after meeting Matteo Politano’s delivery from the right.

Napoli take control of the Scudetto race

Napoli’s win, coupled with Inter’s earlier defeat to Roma, sent the Partenopei three points clear at the top of Serie A with just four games remaining.

McTominay’s influence has been crucial, consistently breaking the deadlock for Napoli during this decisive stretch.

Despite injury concerns for Anguissa and a near-miss from Philip Billing, who struck the crossbar, Napoli held firm for all three points against Torino, putting them in the driving seat for the Scudetto in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge.

Their fans can now dare to dream of another Serie A title, with McTominay playing an unexpected starring role in their thrilling title charge.
