Manchester United will now have less money to fund a pursuit of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen
While Victor Osimhen continues to draw interest from Europe’s elite and Saudi clubs, the chances of the Nigerian striker ending up in Manchester United have taken a significant hit.
According to reports, the Red Devils have settled for a deal for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and have agreed to meet his £62.5 million release clause, leaving little in the bank for a potential pursuit for Osimhen.
Manchester United agree Cunha deal
After weeks of back-and-forth, Manchester United finally caved to Wolves’ demand to pay Cunha’s clause in three instalments over two years.
)
The Red Devils had initially tried to negotiate a longer payment plan, but Wolves refused to budge, insisting on their preferred structures.
The breakthrough gives Manchester United permission to speak directly with Cunha, and personal terms were already in place.
)
A five-year contract, with an option for a sixth, has been agreed, and Cunha is expected to undergo a medical in Manchester later this week.
Manchester United looking to rebuild
Cunha will also reportedly take Marcus Rashford’s No. 10 shirt, suggesting the club is planning for big changes.

The Brazilian, who scored 15 goals and provided six assists in the 2024–25 Premier League season, outperformed every Manchester United player in front of goal, a worrying stat for a side that finished 15th.
With a reported £125 million transfer budget, The Red Devils must be clever. The club is now expected to offload Rashford, Sancho, Malacia, and possibly Fernandes, who is linked with Al-Hilal.

Eriksen, Lindelof, and Evans will leave on free transfers, while Garnacho could fetch up to £70 million. Manchester United will need to let go of a handful of players, otherwise, Osimhen-level spending will not happen.
