José Mourinho has revealed what he missed about Italy football.

Just days before the start of Fenerbahçe’s preseason preparations, legendary football manager José Mourinho made a surprise appearance at the F1 British Grand Prix practice session in Silverstone, where he spoke candidly about football, life, and the tragic loss of a compatriot.

What Mourinho said

Looking relaxed yet focused, the “Special One” joined Sky Sports for an interview that ranged from nostalgic reflections to his outlook on the upcoming season in Turkey.

“I’m doing well and enjoying my last few days of my holiday. Unfortunately, I won’t be here for the race on Sunday since the season is about to begin and I’ll be travelling to Istanbul,” Mourinho said.

Having led Inter Milan to a historic treble in 2010 and more recently managed AS Roma to UEFA Conference League glory, Mourinho was asked whether a return to Serie A could be in the cards.

In classic Mourinho style, he didn’t miss the chance to take a friendly jab at Italian football’s recent struggles on the continental stage:

“Perhaps the only reason I’m missed in Italy is because nobody there won the Champions League since me. Unfortunately, it’s true," he said.

Mourinho took a sombre moment to reflect on the sudden and tragic death of fellow Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota, who passed away recently.

“We always say nice things when someone passes, but he was a great guy. A strong player, someone who didn’t seek the spotlight or attention. One day maybe we’ll understand why these things happen, but right now, there’s no explanation,” Mourinho noted.

Now preparing for a new chapter with Fenerbahçe, Mourinho appears energised. His presence in Turkey has already electrified the fan base, and expectations are sky-high.

As the new season approaches, his blend of charisma, confidence, and experience could be just what the Istanbul giants need to return to the top.
