Almere City's Hamdi Akujobi has made an impassioned appeal to Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, hoping for an opportunity to represent Nigeria.
Akujobi was initially part of Nigeria's preliminary squad for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup but was ultimately not included in the final roster.
Developing in Dutch football, the full-back showed steady improvement, earning attention for his performances.
The 25-year-old is eligible to represent either the Netherlands or the Super Eagles internationally. However, he states that his strong preference is to play for the three-time African champions.

Akujobi wants Super Eagles call-up
Akujobi has consistently performed well, and he now hopes this steady form will lead to a significant international success that has eluded him so far.
Speaking with EaglesTracker, he said, “I do (have the dream to play for the Super Eagles). I think I’m ready now, at the moment.

“If you had asked me this question three years ago, it would not be as relevant as now. Because now, I have had a lot of games on my name.
“I’ve played week in, week out for three consistent years now. I’ve performed, showcased myself and I just think I can do it, to be honest.
“It’s not that I’m not playing, I want a chance to play but I’m actually playing on the highest level, the Eredivisie in Holland.
“I know what I’ve done and what I can still do. I think I can add something to the national team if I would get a chance.”
Akujobi progressed through Feyenoord's youth ranks before making his senior debut with Heerenveen. In 2022, he moved to Almere City, who were then playing in the Dutch second division.
During their successful promotion campaign, he played a key role by scoring five goals in 34 league matches. His contributions led to his inclusion in the Eerste Divisie Team of the Year.
