What Inter Miami said
Following reports that Messi had not signed his contract renewal because he was mulling over leaving the club, Inter Miami sources reached out to Fabrizio Romano.
“Leo is under contract until the end of 2025. The reality is that both parties are interested in continuing the relationship,” Fabrizio was informed. “The necessary steps are being taken with the right mindset to make it happen.”
The MLS season typically starts in late February or early March. This means that even if Messi signs a renewal, he could still leave the club to join a European team on a six-month contract and only miss 2-3 months of action.

Argentinian journalist Esteban Edul relayed the report. He said that Messi was considering joining a more competitive division to prepare himself for the tournament.
The former Barcelona star joined the Herons in the summer of 2023, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract set to expire at the end of the year. Both parties had reached advanced stages for renewal, but a few weeks ago, negotiations paused. Edul reports that Messi’s contemplation led to the talks’ stalling.
