Cole Palmer has sent a message to his new national team coach as he prepares to make his first start under the German.

England international Cole Palmer has stated his desire to impress new boss Thomas Tuchel in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Thomas Tuchel who managed Chelsea, Bayern, and PSG was named the permanent England manager in October 2024 taking over from Gareth Southgate who stepped down after the Three Lions suffered a painful defeat at Euro 2024.

During his spell as Chelsea boss, Tuchel led the Blues to a second UEFA Champions League title in 2012 but Palmer had not joined the Stamford Bridge outfit then.

At 23, Palmer has 11 appearances for the Three Lions, scoring two and assisting one but he didn't start any competitive game under former boss Gareth Southgate.

However, Palmer came off the bench in the final of Euro 2024 and momentarily drew England level before a late striker by Mikel Oyarzabal won the title for Spain.

Cole Palmer ready to impress Tuchel

Since joining Chelsea from Manchester City, Cole Palmer has been a revelation, considering the paltry amount (€47m) the Blues paid for him.

Two seasons ago, Palmer bagged 27 goals, and 15 assists in 48 appearances for the Blues. However, the Englishman has not been able to hit those heights again — he went 18 games between January and May 2025 without finding the back of the net.

Despite the dip, Cole Palmer was still Chelsea's highest goalscorer in the Premier League with 15 strikes and 9 assists.

Palmer will have a chance to impress Tuchel after missing out on a place in England’s team due to injury. According to him, he’s ready to play anywhere the boss deems fit.

He said: “It’s play well at my club … hopefully people can see it and I can turn into a starter for England,” Palmer says. “Last season I played all wide [in midfield] and this season I’ve moved [more centrally]. Wherever he [Tuchel] puts me, I’ll play.”

The 23-year-old is in competition for a place in midfield with Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden. On the flank, Bukayo Saka has held down the right side, while Jarrod Bowen, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Gordon are options on the left.

Meanwhile, new England boss Thomas Tuchel will take charge of the Three Lions on Saturday when they face Andorra in an international friendly after impressing on his debut in March when he led the Three Lions to a 2-0 and 3-0 victory over Albania and Latvia, respectively.
