The Super Eagles star ahead finished ahead of Ronaldo in the Golden Boot race and has now beaten him to the team of the season.

Super Eagles star Odion Ighalo has beaten former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi Pro League team of the 2022/2023 season.

Ighalo was included in the 11-man team, but there was no place for Ronaldo, who could not lead Al-Nassr to the league title after arriving from Manchester United last year.

Although Ronaldo did score 14 goals in 16 league appearances for Al-Nassr, it was not enough to earn him a spot in the team of the season.

Instead, it was Ighalo who was chosen to lead the line of a three-man attack. Ighalo finished ahead of Ronaldo in the Golden Boot race, scoring 19 goals in 27 league games for Al-Hilal.

The Super Eagles star could not help Al-Hilal retain the title they won last season, but he was one of the best players in the league.

As a result, he was chosen as the top striker in the team of the season. Ighalo was supported up front by Mourad Batna and Feras Albrikan.

Ighalo future remains uncertain

Surprisingly, the league’s top scorer Abderrazak Hamdallah was not included despite scoring two more goals than Ighalo.

Meanwhile, despite scoring 19 goals for his side, Ighalo is unlikely to continue his career with Al-Hilal after his contract with the club expired this summer.

Ighalo joined Al-Hilal from fellow league rivals Al-Shabab in January 2022. The former Watford striker helped the club do a cup double in his first season, winning the league and the Saudi Cup with the side.
