A key Arsenal player has extended his stay with the English giants until 2029.

Arsenal defender Gabriel has committed his future to the club, signing a new contract that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2029.

The centre-back, whose previous deal was to expire in 2027, joined the Gunners in 2020 and has become a mainstay in the team.

Gabriel is the club’s dangerous threat from set-pieces, and many of his 20 goals in 210 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side have materialised from such situations.

Reports had suggested that Andrea Berta, Arsenal’s new sporting director, prioritised negotiations with the centre-back's representatives, and a deal has now been reached.

Gabriel’s Arsenal ambition

Gabriel expressed his profound happiness after the renewal, reflecting on his journey since arriving as a young player nearly five years ago and acknowledging his significant growth.

The defender also voiced his strong desire to win trophies with the club, citing his deep affection for Arsenal and the reciprocal love from his family and the supporters.

“I arrived here as a young player and after almost five years I'm so happy and I've learned a lot,” said Gabriel. “I’m so proud of myself, it's an amazing journey, and I'm so happy to continue it. I hope I win some trophies with this club, because I love this club and my family loves the club, too.

“Arsenal is an amazing club and I'm so proud to sign a new contract. I love this club, I love the supporters, my teammates, I love this stadium. I'm so proud and thank you for all the support. We continue together for the future.”

The 27-year-old made 42 appearances for Arsenal during the 2024-25 season but sustained a hamstring injury in April that required surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.

What’s next for Arsenal?

Arsenal hope to finalise more extensions and incomings before the start of pre-season in July.
