Michelle Alozie has made a surprising U-turn on her criticism of the NFF.

Super Falcons’s fan-favourite Michelle Alozie has publicly reversed her damning criticisms of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), instead praising recent improvements as the team prepares for the much-anticipated international friendly against Cameroon.

Just weeks ago, Alozie, 28, sent shockwaves through the footballing community when she appeared on the Togethxr YouTube series, where she openly criticised the lack of basic facilities afforded to Nigeria’s women’s national team.

“I remember my first camp in Nigeria,” the Houston Dash defender recalled.

“I asked them, ‘Training’s done, I have all these dirty clothes—where’s the laundry?’ And they were like, ‘Oh, do you need soap?’” She added, bewildered, “What do you mean I have to hand wash it?”

Her remarks, while praised by gender equality campaigners, sparked debate about the long-standing disparity between the Super Falcons and their male counterparts, the Super Eagles.

“The Super Eagles are not doing handwashing, so why should we?” Alozie rightly questioned.

Renewed hope in Ogun state

However, with preparations underway for the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco this July, Alozie’s tone has noticeably softened.

Speaking ahead of the Super Falcons’ two-match showdown against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, she expressed optimism about the future.

“I am excited for the upcoming training camp and to be back with the Super Falcons; it’s my first time in Ogun State! Everyone is looking forward to the Women AFCON and that is our main focus,” Alozie told the NFF’s official website.

“The way we are treated has changed in the past few years, for the better… I am happy to see the steady change as women’s sports across the world continue to achieve and fight for more equality.”

It appears her criticism may have prompted a response behind the scenes.
