The Nigerian government has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the death of Abubakar Lawal, a Nigerian footballer who played for Vipers Sports Club in Uganda.

Lawal's body was found on Monday morning after reportedly falling from the third floor of Voicemall Shopping Arcade in Uganda.

According to preliminary reports, Lawal had arrived at the shopping mall to meet his friend, Omary Naima, a Tanzanian national. Naima claimed that she had left Lawal in the room preparing tea while she went to a game center within the mall. Shortly after, Lawal reportedly fell from the balcony and was pronounced dead at Entebbe Referral Hospital.

FG demands full investigation

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), expressed her condolences and demanded a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Lawal's death.

"This is pathetic and appears suspicious. We demand a thorough investigation. No cover up at all. This is so sad!" she said.

The Nigerian government has assured that it will ensure a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.

"May his soul rest in peace and God give the family the fortitude to bear this loss," Dabiri-Erewa said.

The Nigerian Embassy in Uganda has demanded a full autopsy and thorough investigations into the incident.

Authorities are currently retrieving CCTV footage and conducting interrogations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Lawal's death.
