The ex-teammate in question is Jose Fonte, who currently plies his trade with Portuguese League side, Casa Pia.

Fonte came through the ranks with Ronaldo at Sporting CP and was teammates with him in the national team until his retirement in 2022.

Speaking to BoyleSports, the former Southampton man revealed he wanted Ronaldo to rejoin Sporting, his boyhood club. He said the move would be immense for the league in sporting and economic terms and is the perfect end to such an accomplished career.

“Make no mistake, for Portugal for Sporting and for all football fans in Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo’s return would be the ultimate dream,’ Fonte said.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 917th goal.

“He would elevate the league, bring in more money, bring in more investment; unfortunately, it’s not up to us.

"We would love to have him here. It's up to him. But who knows? Only he can answer that question. But for us here in Portugal, it would be an absolute dream to have someone like him return to Sporting and to Portugal. What a great story it would be.”

Ronaldo’s Al Nassr future

The former Manchester United man will see his Faris Najd contract expire this summer; however, he is not expected to leave, as he has expressed his commitment to the club's project.

As Pulse Sports reported, a renewal is already in the works, and he is set for a massive contract that will place him on €550,000 weekly wages

It is unlikely Ronaldo will leave Saudi Arabia anytime soon, but Fonte might get his wish in the future, as Ronaldo has also expressed desire to return to Sporting and currently shows no signs of slowing down, despite his advanced age.
