Bassey calls out FA Cup for MOTM snub vs. Man United — They praised my display but forgot the award
Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey wants his hardware after the Emirates FA Cup acknowledged his fantastic performance against Man United but forgot the award at Old Trafford.
What happened
Bassey shocked Old Trafford just before half-time in the FA Cup 5th round clash between Fulham and Manchester United. His goal gave the Cottagers the lead, but Bruno Fernandes restored parity in the 71st minute.
With neither team able to get in front in regulation time, the match went into extra time. Both teams were inseparable for the 30 minutes of extra time and went into penalties.
The London side came out on top during the shootout, with Viktor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee both missing their attempts. After the game, Bassey was subject to discriminatory abuse, and Fulham have now put out a statement in support of their defender.

“Fulham Football Club is utterly appalled at the racist and homophobic abuse received and subsequently shared by Calvin Bassey on social media after yesterday’s FA Cup tie against Manchester United.”
“We strongly condemn this abhorrent behaviour, which has no place in football or society. Such actions are entirely unacceptable, and we stand in full support of Calvin Bassey, who will continue to receive our full backing.
“We will do everything in our power to work with the relevant authorities in identifying the perpetrators of these vile messages and taking the strongest form of action against them.
“Fulham Football Club is committed to maintaining a firm stance against all forms of discrimination and remains dedicated to fostering an environment of respect and inclusion.”
Meanwhile, Bassey was passed over for the MOTM award for the match, with Bruno Fernandes getting the gong in his stead. The Nigerian playfully called out the competition's organisers on social media after they released a post praising his performance.
