Alan Shearer has labelled Rasmus Hojlund as a damaged player after Manchester United's struggle

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has criticised Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund, labelling him a "damaged player" after his struggles on the pitch.

Rasmus Hojlund has scored only three goals in the Premier League this season for Man United.

Hojlund, who joined United from Atalanta for £73m in 2023, has found the net just three times in the Premier League this season.

What Shearer said

Shearer expressed concerns about Hojlund's confidence and timing.

He said, "I'm looking at a damaged player in Hojlund. I think he wasn't ready and isn't ready to lead the line at a club like Manchester United."

Shearer added that Hojlund's "timing is all wrong" and that he's "perhaps a second too early or a second too late."

Despite his shortcomings, Hojlund has retained his place as United's first-choice striker under Ruben Amorim.

Shearer hinted that United might need to sign a more established No 9 to ease the burden on Hojlund.

"He's not at the stage of his career where he should be leading the line," he added.

United's struggles continued with a 1-0 loss to Wolves, leaving them 14th in the table and the sixth-lowest scorers in the division.
