Spanish referee De Burgos has made a statement regarding Real Madrid’s accusation ahead of the Copa del Rey final.

Real Madrid's preparations for the Copa del Rey final were disrupted on Friday after the club accused the match referees of harbouring "animosity and hostility" towards them.

A video released by Real Madrid TV on Thursday showcased what it claims are multiple errors made by referee De Burgos across his career.

Following the video, Real, who are set to face Barcelona in the final, boycotted the usual pre-match events before the game.

This action followed an emotional press conference by the match referee, who criticised the club for their negative comments about him on their own television channel.

According to Daily Mail, De Burgos said, “When a child arrives at school and his mates tell him that his father is a thief, it makes you sick.

“What I do is try to educate my son to tell him that his father is an honest man, that he makes mistakes like any other sportsman. It's very hard, I don't recommend it to anyone.

“It is not right what we are going through for many colleagues... Let everyone reflect on where we want to go, on what we want from sport and from football.”

VAR official Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes, who was beside De Burgos during Saturday's final, stated that referees would soon act because of the constant pressure they were under.

He said, “In a few days you all will see,' he said. 'We are going to make history and we are not going to continue to put up with what we are putting up with. A strike? You will have news from us soon.”

In February, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) voiced referees' worries regarding abuse.

With the clock ticking down, it is yet to be seen if the Copa Del Rey final against Bracelona will still take place.
