Rangnick has revealed that Bayern should have signed Kane at 18
Former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has offered a critical assessment of Bayern Munich's decision to sign Harry Kane at the age of 30, suggesting the club missed a golden opportunity to invest in the striker much earlier in his career.

While acknowledging Kane's immediate impact, Rangnick believes the move lacks long-term financial sense for the Bavarian giants.
Kane, who joined Bayern in 2023 for a reported fee of €110 million, finally ended his long-standing trophy drought by winning the Bundesliga last season.

He has also been prolific in front of goal, bagging 83 goals in 93 appearances for the club to date. Despite these impressive statistics, Rangnick remains unconvinced by the strategy.
"Bayern should have signed Harry Kane at 20," Rangnick told Sport.
)
He continued, "You have to sign a Harry Kane at 18 or 20 and then keep him as long as possible. That would be my approach. But I repeat: every club has to decide for itself. You have to make an effort to discover this type of player earlier."
Rangnick's main concern revolves around the potential for recouping the hefty transfer fee for a player in his thirties.
He highlighted the financial implications of signing older players on long contracts, arguing that such investments are essentially a "bet" on immediate success rather than building for the future with sell-on value.
"Does it make sense to spend a transfer fee of 30/40/50 million for a 30/28 year old? Let's make that calculation. You sign a 30/28 year old, give him a five-year contract. You spend on average €15m/year on wages, times five, that's €75m.
