Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle has been urged to recall Ahmed Musa for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.

Super Eagles of Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has been backed for a return to the national team.

The 32-year-old captain has not played for Nigeria since their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations preparation clash against Guinea.

However, with crucial World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe looming in March, former Julius Berger midfielder Edema Fuludu believes Musa's experience could be vital.

"The Super Eagles are in dire need of results to put our World Cup campaign back on track, and I feel someone like Ahmed Musa has a crucial role to play," Fuludu told Guardian Nigeria.

Musa has been playing for Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League, and Fuludu argues that his presence in the domestic league proves he still has something to offer.

"If Ahmed Musa can come back to play in the Nigerian league and stabilise Kano Pillars on the table, there is nothing wrong in including him in the Super Eagles squad for the World Cup qualifiers," Fuludu added.

Fuludu also dismissed concerns about Musa's age, saying: "Many Nigerians are superstars when it comes to football, and I always feel sad when some people jump to conclusions that players are too old to play for the national team."

With new Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle currently assessing his team setup, Fuludu believes Musa could still play a role for the national team.

"We have seen situations where older players became saviours for many teams in tight situations. We all know Ahmed Musa as one of the most dedicated players to play for the national team.

"After all, he has not officially announced his retirement from international football. I feel he still has a role to play in the Super Eagles if the coach wants him."
