Didier Digard has compared England and France after the FFF statement on Ramadan.

Didier Digard has compared the Premier League with Ligue 1 after a recent ruling by the FFF relating to Ramadan.

The OGC Nice manager disagreed with the decision made by the French football governing body, drawing comparisons with England, who he thought were better at being open-minded.

What the FFF ruling was

Recall when we reported that in a new development to aid Muslims during Ramadan, the Premier League instructed match officials to pause game time to allow Muslim players to break their fast in games that are played into Iftar time.

They are encouraged to note Muslim players that will be in action during the Iftar time before the game, and when a natural pause in the play occurs at that time, players and match officials who are fasting should be allowed to go to the sidelines to take in liquids or energy supplements.

The French FA have taken a contrary step, saying they will not allow for political or religious sentiments in football.

They rejected the proposal that officials pause game time to allow Muslim players to break their fast.

FFF statement: “Football does not take into account the political, religious, ideological, or syndical [trade unions] considerations of its actors.”

What Digard said

The Nice manager disagreed with the decision of the FFF, saying the English were more open-minded than the French when he was speaking in the pre-game press conference for Nice's game against Angers on Sunday.

“The English are more open-minded than us about this, and they always were,” he said, per GFFN.

The 36-year-old who has a number of Muslim players in his squad, says the club is in full support of their fasting players, saying they closely monitor their nutrition and hydration.

“We support them as best as possible, and they are closely monitored in terms of food of hydration. They do it out of conviction, and it makes things a lot easier. We don’t ask them any questions. We judge players on their performances, not according to whether they fast or not.“

When Doucoure also compared France and England

Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has also compared both countries in terms of tolerance previously.

The 30-year-old who was born in France and has played in Ligue 1 for Rennes, believes the English are a great example for his country of birth, declaring that the Premier League is the best league for Muslims.
