Sir Alex Ferguson has applauded the former Arsenal Striker Robin Van Persie for winning the Premier League title for Manchester United in 2012 after he was signed from Arsenal.

Robin Van Persie signed for Manchester United from Arsenal in the summer of 2012 and went on to win the league title for Sir Alex Ferguson which was his final league title before he announced his retirement that season.

The former Netherlands striker was the missing piece to Sir Alex Ferguson's side when he signed for them in 2012, and also went on to win the Premier League in his first season at the club.

Van Persie was signed from Arsenal for a fee worth £24 million and immediately became an integral part of the team, scoring 24 league goals and helping Manchester United to the Premier League title.

The striker was at the hub of everything, scoring goals for fun with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Micheal Carrick, Nemanja Vidic and other teammates giving him the necessary service needed.

Speaking at his induction into the Premier League Hall of Fame, the two-time Champions League champion discussed his final season at Manchester United and how Robin van Persie was a vital member of the squad that won the title in 2012–2013.

“I’d made my mind up in December, I was going to retire and only [my wife] Cathy knew and the boys knew,” Ferguson said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “We kept it quiet because I wanted to win the Premier League and it was great to go out a winner.

“To be honest with you, I think the signing of [Robin] van Persie, won us the league with his 29 goals that season. He was fantastic.

“He was that thrust in the last third of the field and the goal he scored against Aston Villa from Wayne Rooney’s pass to win the league, you couldn’t have got a better goal than that.”
