Alexis Sanchez and Corentin Tolisso were among the best players in Ligue 1 Gameweek 28

Paris Saint-Germain’s weekend did not go according to plan as the reigning champions lost to Rennes in the most shocking result of gameweek 28.

Reims also saw their 19-match unbeaten run come to an end thanks to this week’s player of the week, Alexis Sanchez’ buperb brace.

Ligue 1 Gameweek 28 TOTW

Goalkeeper: Steve Mandanda — Paris Saint-Germain vs (Rennes)

Keeping a clean sheet against the mighty Paris Saint-Germain attack is no easy feat, and Steve Mandanda put on an impressive show to achieve this for Rennes this week.

He made an incredible eight saves against the league leaders, with seven coming from shots inside the box, and that was the difference between Rennes' shock win and a different result.

Centre-back: Gerzino Nyamsi  — (Strasbourg) vs Auxerre

Strasbourg scored at the start and end of their match against Auxerre, with defender Gerzino Nyamsi opening the scoring after only five minutes and working hard to ensure they stayed ahead until the second goal.

In addition to his goal, Nyamsi also won 100% of his duels and made three tackles, earning a well-deserved Man of the Match title.

Centre-back: Alexsandro Ribeiro — Toulouse vs (Lille)

Lille beat Toulouse 2-0 with two late goals from Alexsandro Ribeiro and Mohamed Bayo and the defender’s performance in the win was of the highest level.

The Brazilian defender scored the game’s opener in the 85th minute and also finished the match with five clearances and three interceptions to help Lille to an important win.

Centre-back: Rasmus Nicolaisen — (Toulouse) vs Lille

Despite Toulouse’s loss to Lille, Rasmus Nicolaisen’s performance stood out as one of the better ones of the game.

Nicolaisen gave his all for Toulouse, making eight defensive interventions including a clearance off the line and a last-man tackle, but it was not enough as Lille still fell to a 2-0 defeat.

Left-winger: Lois Openda — (Lens) vs Angers

Lens’ Lois Openda makes the team of the week for the second consecutive week after another stunning performance, this time against bottom-of-the-table Angers.

He followed his hat-trick last week against Clermont with a brilliant brace against Angers to seal another man-of-the-match performance in Ligue 1.

The French forward has now scored 14 Ligue 1 goals this season, with five of them coming in the last two games.

Central-midfielder: Corentin Tolisso — (Lyon) vs Nantes

Despite Lyon’s disappointing draw against Nantes, Corentin Tolisso was superb for all 74 minutes he played in the match.

Despite not playing the entire match, Tolisso still managed 104 touches and 85 completed passes, which was the second most for those metrics in the entire game.

Tolisso also won five of his eight duels and created three big chances as Lyon played out a 1-1 draw.

Central-midfielder: Benjamin Bourigeaud — Paris Saint-Germain vs (Rennes)

Another top performer in Rennes' shock win over PSG, Benjamin Bourigeaud was a monster in the middle of the park and gave a superb box-to-box showing in the 2-0 victory.

Bourigeaud completed the most passes for Rennes, won the most tackles of anyone on the pitch, completed six of seven attempted ground duels, seven of his 10 long passes, and assisted Karl Toko Ekambi’s opening goal to set Rennes on their way.

A truly astonishing performance against one of the best teams in Europe

Central-midfielder: Branco van den Boomen — (Toulouse) vs Lille

The last time Toulouse’s Branco van den Boomen made it to the team of the week, it was due to his freekick goal against PSG.

He did not score this weekend, but he was still brilliant, even as Toulouse succumbed to two late goals to lose to Lille.

Van den Boomen created seven chances for Toulouse but still had to watch as the chances were missed and Toulouse dropped points for the fourth time in five Ligue 1 games.

Right-winger: Rony Lopez — (Troyes) vs Brest

Troyes were left heartbroken by a late Brest goal in their relegation scrap, but can take the positive of Rony Lopez’ performance as a silver lining.

Lopez was superb and scored what should have been the winning goal but for Romain Del Castillo’s 74th-minute goal.

In addition to his goal, Lopez also had the most shots in the match, won the mot duels, and created a big chance in the eventual 2-2 draw.

Centre-forward: Elye Wahi — (Montpellier) vs Clermont

Montpellier forward Elye Wahi was the hero against Clermont as he scored twice to ensure La Paillade went away with all three points.

Wahi scored Montpellier’s equaliser after the hour mark and followed that up by scoring the winner just over 10 minutes after.

The brace took the 20-year-old forward to 12 goals in Ligue 1 this season, just one below Lionel Messi.

Centre-forward: Alexis Sanchez — Reims vs (Marseille)

Marseille forward Alexis Sanchez was in inspired form this gameweek as he scored twice to end Reims’ unbeaten run that stretched back to last year.

Sanchez beat Mandanda to our player of the week title after scoring twice in Marseille’s 2-1 win.

Sanchez scored the equaliser and winning goal against Reims with a beautiful freekick, and also created four chances including one big chance, while also completing all three of his dribbles.
